It’s really important to me, to capture your pets personality and their features properly. I don’t hurry the process, and because I do every step by hand (including sketching and painting) I take the time to look closely at everything from ears to whiskers to distinguishing features like fur patterns. It’s a lot of fun!

Having a good quality, clear photo to work from makes a big difference to the accuracy of the painting.

If your pet has a certain thing that you love, like one floppy ear or that personalised name tag, let me know and I’ll make sure to give it extra attention!

It starts by purchasing a pet portrait from the listings on this page, in the size you’d like. Then:

1. Email me a clear, well-lit photo of your pet - jemmanewman.art@gmail.com

2. I'll create a pencil sketch and send it to you for approval.

3. Once you’ve replied to comfirm you’re happy, I'll hand-paint your portrait in watercolour.

4. I'll send you a photo of the finished artwork before posting.

5. Your portrait is carefully packaged and shipped via Australia Post with tracking.

The best photos for a pet portrait are:

• Taken in natural light.

• Have clearly visible eyes and nose.

• Have the full face and chest, or face and body, in focus.

• Don’t have really dark shadows.

Try crouching down with your pet at eye level to take the photo, and don’t underestimate the power of treats!

Each painting is created by hand and takes anywhere from 4-10 hours. I often have a wait list for pet portraits, so I’ll give you a precise date when I get the order. Most pet portraits are completed within a month, but if you have a date you need it by (for example, a birthday gift) let me know and I’ll try my very best to get it in time.

Every pet portrait is proudly completed by hand. I don’t use AI or digitally generated images for my paintings, because I value the use of human creativity and craftsmanship.

When I get your photo, I print it, and then create a sketch by hand on thick cotton paper. Then I enjoy slipping into my world of creativity as I paint your pet(s) using watercolour, in my Perth studio.

It’s important to me that portraits are Fine Art, something to be treasured, and completely hand made.

As they are custom paintings, returnes and exchanges are not possible.

If you have an issue or there has been an error, I will do everything possible to fix that, including re-painting your pet portrait if needed.
